Anxiety Control Training 2 (ACT 2) (Female voice)

Anxiety Control Training (ACT) is a self-help relaxation method that was designed by Dr Philip Snaith at the University of Leeds to enable people to learn control over anxiety. Anxiety is a condition that is very common and few people allow themselves the time to begin to overcome it.

The approach will only work if the person wishes to learn the skill of controlling anxiety and is prepared to work at it steadily and regularly over several weeks. There are no shortcuts to learning this new skill. It is therefore very important that you make up your mind whether you want to apply yourself to learn to control your anxiety in this way,
Ultimately it is only through practice that improvement will occur.

Once you have mastered how to relax your body and achieve a state of calm-control using ACT 1, then you can consider using ACT 2 -  the next step. Produced by Media Innovations (www.calipso.co.uk) this high quality recording in MP3 format will play on many music systems, DVD players and computers - please check your player can play these files.

Please note: The first version of Anxiety Control Training (ACT 1) should be downloaded or bought on CD and used weekly for 2-3 weeks until mastered before you move on to using this recording).  In ACT 2 you will learn how to initially relax your body and mind (identical to ACT 1), and then move on to think about a slightly stressful image or memory. The session then talks you through how to relax again and helps you practice how to return to that state of calm control.
